There are variations of these deals available but they are generally seen as a sales technique used by the lender to get you to take out a mortgage.
As the name suggests, on completion of your mortgage, you receive an amount of cash back from the lender. This can be quite substantial and can be used towards moving costs, furnishings or a well deserved holiday after the trials of moving home. However, the banks, building societies and other lenders are businesses and not charities so do not look upon this as a genuine gift. If, in the short term, this extra cash helps tie you over then this may be attractive for you. But the lender will eventually more than make their money back and you will be repaying this money (with interest) in one way or another.
